Keystone Clubs are chartered small group leadership development clubs for young people ages 14-18. This service club is one of the most dynamic teen leadership programs in America. Members elect officers, choose their own activities, and plan community service projects. A national charter entitles a Keystone Club to participate in the annual National Keystone Conference, where Keystone Club members from across the country gather in a different city each year to develop leadership skills, exchange ideas, discuss current issues, and make friends. Each year members also select a national project for local Keystone Clubs to complete. The combined action of thousands of local Keystone members throughout the nation results in a project of distinct significance.
Torch Clubs are chartered small-group leadership and service clubs for boys and girls ages 11-13. Torch Club members elect officers and work together to plan and implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Torch Club awards are presented annually to Torch Clubs with outstanding programs and activities in all four areas.
The Youth of the Year program is designed to promote and recognize members’ service to the Clubs and community, academic performance, moral character, and contributions to family. Honorees are first chosen quarterly by their respective local Club. Those youth are then eligible to represent their Club in the King County Youth of the Year competition held annually in February at Benaroya Hall. The honoree chosen to represent King County will then move on to the state competition. Eventually, five regional winners meet each year in Washington D.C. to compete for the honor of becoming National Youth of the Year. Annually, the youth selected as National Youth of the Year is installed by the sitting President of the United States in a special ceremony in the Oval Office. The King County Youth of the Year Program, in existence for more than 50 years, is sponsored by Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union.
